Re: Choice of effect size for Mann-Whitney/Wilcoxon tests
Hi Lisa, I read a paper by Kerby* which gave a simple formula to calculate the biserial rank correlation - and having used it in Excel I can confirm it gave me the same value as that produced by jamovi. You are correct in that it uses a dichotomous variable - basically the statistic is the direct pr...

Post hoc testing after two-way ANOVA
Hiya, Apologies if this has been posted previously, but I have a query about the number of post hoc tests calculated in a two-way ANOVA. jamovi appears to calculate all the possible combinations of condition pairings, rather than those that are required. For instance, in a simple (2*2) repeated meas...

Average inter-item correlation?
Hi all, I'm teaching my students how to reverse score and conduct the various indices of reliability and validity. I must say this is incredibly easy and a joy to teach in jamovi! The heatmap of correlations is simply a godsend for demonstrating the effects of not reverse-scoring those items that ar...

Re: Choice of effect size for Mann-Whitney/Wilcoxon tests
Hi Jonathon, Apologies for the delay in posting a reply - summer came and went! My issue with using Cohen's d is that these are derived from differences in means and SD which are not really applicable to non-parametric statistics - and goes against why we would advocate using NPs to our students . F...

Choice of effect size for Mann-Whitney/Wilcoxon tests
Hi all, First of all let me say what a great job you're doing with jamovi - it's a fantastic tool to teach statistics with. I trialled it with our postgraduate students this year, and we're rolling it out to our undergraduate students this coming academic year. I have a query about the choice of eff...
