update problem

My version of jamovi (1.0.5.0) is telling me that it is rather old (like its user). When I try to download the 'solid' version (1.1.9), I get rejection messages and don't seem to be able to download.

Re: Transforming variables and other improvements

With regards to your 3rd point. It depends. If you want to do it merely so that it is familiar to SPSS users, then it is only a short-term advantage. Personally, I think that having the parametric test and its non-parametric equivalent together makes sense: if when you run a parametric test, you fin...

Re: Testing Normality of Residuals in Repeated and Mixed ANO

I think that trouble (or virtue?) is that statistical tests have been developed in diverse ways. Various tests were created by psychologists, not mathematicians. Others, such as survival analysis, have different names because of applications in various academic fields (where it becomes event or dura...

Re: Mann Whitney U - Mean Rank Values

I think you need to add up the ranking values for each level and divide the sum by the number of cases in that level. So, you'll get two figures which I think would be correct.

Re: Choice of effect size for Mann-Whitney/Wilcoxon tests

For what it's worth, I believe that Hedges' g is preferred to Cohen's d where there are less than 20 cases.

Re: stepwise regression

I cover some of this in my books. In short, I would say that in these days of easy computing, I would agree that the use of stepwise regression for the usual purposes is not particularly ethical. Even if you wanted to use it for whittling down data, wouldn't factor analysis be more useful and valid....

Re: omega squared

It can be done, but is a bit more complicated to produce than the between subjects version. I've got it in Cole Davis (2019) 'Statistical Testing with R' (Vor Press, copyright 2019), but I'll send the jamovi team the code.
