Combining Filters

Post by Janusko »

Hi,
I usually use SPSS, and one of the things I find really attractive in Jamovi is the ability to combine filters and to see the effect on the results at one glance.

However, I struggle to figure out how combining filters works. I have read the blog post about it, but I still have the following question:

I have 10 different filters, for example:
Filter 1 is = Gender==0
Filter 2 is = Nationality==1
Filter 3 is =Income==0

I thought filter work in a way that if I activate Filter 1, it will exclude all those respondents who have gender = 0 ( in this case that excludes people who were male, which would be 11 respondents in total), and then if I subsequently activate Filter 2, it will exclude all those who have nationality 1 (in this case those who are from the US, which would be 50 respondents in total), and then subsequently Filter three will exclude all those with income = 0 (in this case, those with the lowest income, which would be 9 respondents in total).

That should exclude a total of 70 respondents from my data set. However, for some reason it excludes 247 respondents (I have double checked and the variables are coded correctly). I therefore wonder what the formula behind the filters is, since it is not applying them separately.

Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance

hi,

the ticks and crosses in the filter columns don't make it clear what's going on?

if it still doesn't make sense, could you attach a .omv file of this?

with thanks

Hi Jonathan.

the ticks and crosses make it super-easy, indeed. The problem is I that when I combine filters, it filters out more respondents than it should. I can't attach my data file in a public space, but I can pm you if there is a way.
Thanks a lot for your help.

perhaps you can provide an example data file which doesn't behave the way you expect.

alternatively, you can send it to contact <at> jamovi.org

kind regards
