iPad persistence

Post by credmontgo »

Has anyone found a good way to run Jamovi on the iPad so that it doesn’t time out? I’m not sure if the new sign on feature is supposed to help with this, but in class I teach from an iPad for lectures, and generally switch to a computer for Lab demos. Recently I’ve been trying out the cloud version during lectures and it works great, but if I leave it and go back to notes for a while, when I go back to it I get “session timeout” and a full refresh. Generally not an issue, but if I switched to copy a number it’s annoying. I could use split screen or slide over, but looking for options. It’s generally a small students’ generated dataset where we’re looking at how the software works, nothing big.

hi,

i'm afraid what you describe is a feature rather than a bug.

we are planning on introducing a patreon tier that will let you have longer time outs on the cloud version, so stay tuned.

Sounds good. I did notice it’s 100 times worse in chrome (about 30sec to almost immediate connection timeout, rather than a few minutes) so that will fix most of my problems for now

Im assuming the cloud version servers etc are a huge cost too, so that makes a lot of sense. A save state option would be nice too. I don’t necessarily need long persistence, just the option to resume fairly quickly. Right now it has to fail, then refresh everything, then go to open etc. sign me up for the Patreon tier though

Possibly. In the chrome app most times if I lose focus on the cloud app I get a “connection lost” error.

yeah, chrome (by chrome, you mean a chromebook?) might really aggressively shutdown websocket connections. will have to look into it.

Sorry I meant the patreon tier for longer timeouts, autocorrected to Patreon the company.
