Standard error via v-function

Post by maumohr »

Dear all,

I ran into an issue when I tried to calculate the standard error of the mean via the v-function.
Somehow, it is not returning the correct result, which it does if I use the Descriptive Statistics tool.
The VSTDEV in contrast seems to work just fine.

I have attached two images of the analysis.

In the first image, I am showing how I set up the VSE function for the variable 's', grouped by 'grade'. You can see that the v-function returns a value of 0.371 for the category '1st-grade'. The right bottom image shows the correct output of the Descriptive Statistics tool, which returns a value of 0.0389.

In the other image, I am showing how I set up the VSTDEV function for the variable 's', grouped by 'grade'. For this variable, the v-function and Descriptive Statistics tool agree.

I would appreciate to hear if I am doing something wrong or if the VSE function does not work properly.
Should these two calculations not lead to the same result?

Thank you very much.

you're quite right, there's a bug here. we'll push out a new version (hopefully in the next 24 hours) which fixes this.

with thanks
