Complete uninstall of jamovi - Make it "it's alive" again...

Post by Mik »

Hello,

One of my student had a functional jamovi version 2.6.2 and after some analysis, the dreaded message "this analysis has terminated, likely due to hitting a resource limit" appeared. Then it remained even when using basic descriptive functions. We tried following some suggestions here https://github.com/jamovi/jamovi/issues/1515 with no success. We tried uninstalling jamovi, reinstalling it, upgrading to a newer version, uninstalling all modules, reinstalling jamovi, still getting the same infamous message, even when using a new data file from scratch.

So my question is: in what folders is jamovi installed ? In Windows, is everything stored here? C:\Program Files\jamovi 2.6.2.0
or are some dependencies stored elsewhere ?

My reasoning is that by deleting everything manually, we will make it work again. There seems to be a file that is not automatically deleted by Windows when the program in uninstalled and that file is creating a problem even when the application is reinstalled.

Regards,

Michael

hi,

the 2.6.13 doesn't work for you?

you could also try starting jamovi directly from the start menu, rather than by double-clicking a .omv file.

the only other place jamovi stores files is in the user's appdata folder ... you can google how to locate a user's appdata folder. you should be able to find a 'jamovi' folder in there somewhere (but i'd be surprised if deleting it fixes it).

this error usually indicates something unusual about the user's machine; a stray environmental variable that R picks up.

let me know if the 2.6.13 doesn't work, as there may be a couple of mods i can make to work around this.

Hello Jonathon,

I tried to uninstall everything, even deleted the jamovi folder in the AppData location, and then installed version 2.6.13. I still got the error message. However, it appeared only with additional modules. The base modules included in jamovi were working fine. I tried adding GAMLj3, walrus, BMtest... all the additional modules generated the same error.

I ran the program in debug2 mode and recorded a mp4 video. Maybe it will help you understand what is happening: https://uqtrsspt-my.sharepoint.com/:v:/ ... g?e=xb4aOl

After these unsuccessful attempts, I created a new local account on the Windows 11 computer. Jamovi was already installed in the admin account. I noticed, however, that the additional modules were not loaded by default in the local account. This gave me a glimpse of hope... so I installed GAMLj3, walrus, BMtest... and everything is working on that local account.

I hope that this information will help solve the problem which is clearly related to an interaction between additional modules and something on that admin account. Please note that I deleted a separated R version, R Studio and Rtools on that admin account. But maybe something is still there in the AppData regarding these other programs.

Do you have an idea about the cause of that issue ?

Best regards,

Michael

Thanks for your follow up. I will check the version of Windows 10 on that computer.
