ANOVA - Simple Interactions and Simple Effects Request

Hi Team,

A second request/point for consideration.

When conducting a three-way ANOVA model currently the follow up tests consist only of main, simple and simple simple pairwise comparisons (as in drilled down right to the bottom level of exploration for possible significant main effects, two-way interaction and three-way interaction).

However, technically you also want to be able to check simple effects and simple interactions and simple simple effects to guide your exploration of those pairwise comparisons.

For example say you have a significant three way interaction. You want to test firstly if the two-way simple interaction is significant for each level of the third factor and then potentially only drill further into the simple interactions that are significant.

Similarly for a significant simple two-way interaction or a significant two-way interaction you want to be able to check the simple simple effects or simple effects (where the factors involved have three or more levels) as a guide to which simple and simple simple comparisons you drill down to under those.

It seems you can get simple effects if you use the GAMLJ module however you can't get the simple interactions, and you have to ask for each one by one.

It would be great though if within the ANOVA menu when you ask for all those posthocs for the varying main effects and interaction combinations that you also get the over arching simple interactions, simple simple effects for three way interactions and simple effects for two way interactions. When asking for these interaction follow ups in SPSS you get the simple effects attached to each pairwise comparison set.

Just something to ponder for future versions. This would make the results produced a lot more "complete" and also be more comprehensive from the teaching perspective.
