can't import file from SPSS

Post by mariegoodRU »

Hi there,
I am unable to import some of my SPSS files into JAMOVI. For one file, when I try to import, I get the message "Unable to import - Unable to convert string to the requested encoding (invalid byte sequence). And for the other, it just says "Unable to import - unable to open the file". But it's very odd because for other SPSS files I'm working with in the same folder, same database, I can successfully import. I am working in a secure virtual desktop environment so I am unable to attach the file...the only thing I can think of is that the two files that I can't import are quite a bit larger than the ones I can (i.e., 1300 KB for the ones that won't import vs 110 KB for the one that does).
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

hi,

unfortunately, we'd really need to have access to the files in order to fix this issue. if that's possible, you could email them to contact <at> jamovi.org ... but i appreciate that's not always possible.

Thanks so much Jonathon! Unfortunately there's no way I'll be allowed to share the file. It's so weird because the file that opens is from the exact same database, in the same virtual desktop, etc, as the ones that won't! Is there any way you could share with me any common problems that I may be able to look into for this issue?

hmm, it is very difficult to address these without seeing the file, but you could try running jamovi at the terminal (you'll find 'jamovi debug' under the windows start menu), and open those files. this should produce additional error messages that might be able to point us in the right direction.

cheers
