sas7bdat files in 1.6.15/21

I am trying to open a sas7bdat file from NHATS.org (an open health dataset). This was working fine, the last time I tried it (in the 1.2.x line), but results in a:
Unable to open
[Errno 5] Invalid file, or file has unsupported
features
dialog box. I don't know if this is a bug, or just me. Have y'all tried opening a SAS file recently?
I tried it again in 1.2.27 and it opened fine, but no joy in 1.6.x.
