[SOLVED] Compute new variables
[SOLVED] Compute new variables
First of all, thanks for your work on this project!
One thing that I hope can be added to jamovi in the near future is the possibility to compute new variables and have those added to the dataset. In part, this should go under the "Data" menu. Also, an analysis should be able to add new variables to the dataset (e.g., residuals from a regression model).
In part, I bring this up in connection with the meta-analysis module that Kyle is working on (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10#p59). A common workflow in meta-analysis is to compute some kind of outcome measure (and corresponding sampling variances) based on some reported descriptive statistics (e.g., means, SDs, and sample sizes -> raw or standardized mean differences; counts for 2x2 tables -> (log) risk/odds ratios and risk differences) and then, in a second step, analyze those values with standard meta-analytic models. Without some kind of 'compute new variables' capability, this type of workflow isn't currently possible inside of jamovi.
Best,
Wolfgang

Re: Compute new variables
yes! i'm working on the 'compute variable' thing at the moment.
the latter step, allowing an analysis to generate an additional column in the data set, is a bit further away (a few months).

Great! Happy to hear that.

Re: Compute new variables
It'll be exciting once that feature is added!
Re: Compute new variables
Do you have any sense of when a "compute new variable" function will be available? I ask because I plan on teaching with Jamovi starting in a couple of weeks. I'd like for my students to be able to compute z-scores, either automatically, or by manually entering a simple equation.
Re: Compute new variables
hi anthony,
ooh, probably won't be ready in a couple of weeks. this is actually pretty difficult functionality to provide, so i'm progressing slowly. it's at least 3 weeks away, but it will probably take longer than that.
i'll let you know how i get on (and sorry i can't be more concrete!)

Re: Compute new variables
Thanks for the estimate! That's enough to help me plan the semester.
Re: Compute new variables
jamovi 0.8 is out now, with 'compute new variables' functionality.
Re: Compute new variables
Impressive, congratulations
Re: Compute new variables
This is a hugely helpful feature. Nice implementation!
