Correlation

Hi I struggle a bit with statistics.
I am looking at the relationship between procrastination and academic performance and whether this differes between online university students and on-campus students.
I have to do a correlation for online students - procrastination score, online students - academic performance score and the same two with on-campus students.
The issue I have is that both sets of students are on the same data variable , with online as level 1 and on campus as level 2.
How do I get separate results for each when they are together? I can figure out how to separate or split them, is this possible?

You can use a filter to separate these groups and run separate correlations e.g. for your student_group IV, if 1 = on-campus and 2 = online, then creating a filter that states "student_Group==1" would mean only the on-campus students would be included in any analysis you are about to do.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have created a filter as you suggested. But when I go to correlations matrix in the left hand column it only has the student_group data to pit in the right hand box.
Sorry , useless at this sort of thing. I tried to create a second filter for on- campus students but correlation matrix saying missing value where true/false needed.

I have been playing around with jamovi since my earlier post, I have created two filters , one for online and the other for on-campus. i didn't realise I had to have one inactive while the other was active. Is this correct what I have done?
Does this mean when I have the filter set as active for online students, when I do a correlation using student_groups and say procrastination scores, will the results of the analysis , as I have a filter with online students as active, be for online students only. If that makes sense, sorry again, really new to this and doing it for a dissertation.

Hi Gareth,
You should be able to select 3 variables in the correlation matrix (the 'procrastination' & 'academic performance' scores as well as the 'Student_group' variable - though we won't be including the latter in the correlation itself, but rather using it to split the correlations into two analyses for on_campus vs. online students.

It sounds like something is amiss in the setting up of your procrastination & academic performance variables. Is your data set-up like mine?

I think there might be some misunderstanding here. You can set a filter to determine who gets included in the correlation analysis - in the example I gave above, I used the filter to only include on-campus students. Thus, if I was to then correlate procrastination and academic performance variables - it would solely be based on scores from on-campus students only.

Equally, if I was to then change the filter to only include online students - the correlation between procrastination & academic performance would then be for these students only.

Does that make sense?

Thanks again for your reply and your time. My head is fried, I really don't understand statistics or calculations. The filter is not working for me , but I think I have a workaround. I have done compute variable, creating a column (I used fx= student_group==1 and student_group==2) for both online and on-campus students.
